100% in your browser – no uploads

Crop any photo into any shape.

Pick a ready-made frame or pull the silhouette out of your own image – the outline of Mallorca, for instance. Your photo goes inside, everything around it turns transparent, and the contour gets a gold or black border.

What PictureShape is built for

Holiday memories in island shape

That beach photo in the outline of Mallorca, Sylt or Crete. Upload a map of the island, take the silhouette, drop your photo inside – and the poster for your wall is done.

Wedding and party decoration

Couple photos in a heart, a ring or your own initials. With a gold border and a transparent background the result fits any invitation, place card and photo-booth template.

Instagram highlight icons

Round icons with a consistent border in your brand colours. Set the border once, then export photo after photo – all exactly the same size and framing.

A logo as a photo mask

Club crest or company logo as the shape for team photos. The outline is extracted from the logo, the photo sits underneath and can be positioned freely.

Print-on-demand & photo gifts

Export directly at print sizes: 4×6, 5×7, 8×12, A5 or A4, each at 300 dpi. Your artwork goes to any print service without recalculating anything.

Three steps

How it works

1 · Pick a photo

Drag your image into the field or choose a file. It is decoded right in the browser – nothing is uploaded.

2 · Choose the shape

Take a ready-made shape, or upload a second image and extract its silhouette. Then pan, zoom and rotate your photo underneath as you like.

3 · Border & export

Set the border colour and width, then export a PNG with a transparent background – in pixels or straight at a print size.

Common questions

FAQ

Are my photos uploaded?

No. PictureShape is a pure frontend application with no backend. Your images are decoded and processed in the browser and never leave your device. That includes the AI cutout: the model is downloaded once and then runs locally.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no limit. Edit and export as many images as you like.

Which file formats are supported?

On import, anything your browser can decode – typically JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP. On export you can choose PNG with transparency, WebP or JPG.

What is the AI cutout and how big is the download?

You can optionally enable an AI model for detecting outlines automatically. The one-time download is about 7.3 MB — roughly 3.3 MB of runtime and 4 MB of model. It only starts when you trigger it yourself and is cached in the browser afterwards. Everything also works without a model – via magic wand, colour key and brush.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Panning, zooming and rotating are built for touch. For very large photos PictureShape caps the export size on mobile devices so the browser does not run out of memory.

How do I get a genuinely transparent background?

Export as PNG or WebP. Both formats store an alpha channel, so everything outside the frame stays transparent. JPG cannot store transparency and therefore fills the background with a colour of your choice.

Can I use my own shapes?

Yes, that is the core feature. Upload any image – a map, a logo, a silhouette – and PictureShape extracts the outline as a vector path. A detail slider controls how finely the contour is traced.

Can I use the results commercially?

PictureShape makes no claim to your images – what you create is yours. Do make sure you hold the rights to the source material you use: maps, logos and third-party photos remain subject to their owners' licence terms.
